Bottega Veneta was founded by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro in 1966 in Italy, and the name simply means, "Venetian atelier". They are best known for leather goods, and especially their special leather-weaving technique called 'intrecciato'. In the year 2001, the company was bought by Gucci Group and Tomas Maier joined in as Creative Director. A German born, Maier who was with Hermes and Sonia Rykiel has raised BV to another level in fashion world. He has removed visible logos (an original design element which had strayed away in the 90's) from the brand's products throughout and focused on the signature intrecciato weave. In the year 2006, BV established Scuola della Pelletteria - a school to train and support the diminishing master leather artisans of the future in Italy.
